Christopher Columbus was that first European to come to Venezuela during his third voyage into the new world, in 1498. The country was once a set of tropical forests, beaches, and grasslands which is the Carib, Arawak and Chibcha tribes territory.
The Spanish had established their first settlement - Nueva Cadiz, a year later from Columbus' discovery but it was destroyed by tsunami.
